Dreidel

Dreidel

  • Description
The game of Dreidel is a descendant of Teetotum and a sister game to Put & Take Game. It is played by Jewish families during the Hanukkah Festival. A Dreidel is a top that is spun to land on one of it's four sides. Each side has a letter - initials for the words 'Neis Gadol Hayah Po' (a great miracle happened here.) When the State of Israel was formed the word 'Po' (here) replaced the letter 'Sham' (there). Players put items (typically candy or cookies) into a pot. Each player spins the Dreidel to see what happens...N(eis) - The player gets nothing from the pot. G(adol) - The player gets everything in the pot. H(ayah) - The player gets half the pot. P(o) / S(ham) - The player must add something to the pot. - BoardGameGeek
