Who Can Beat Nixon?

Who Can Beat Nixon?

  • Description
A political game developed immediately after Nixon's first election and released in 1970. The game had a 'Monopoly' type of board, play money, dice, tokens, cards. The board of this game is very Monopoly-like. This is good for making it easy to recognize and comfortable for new players. This is very bad for not having each state be won independently. States that have nothing in common, other than geographic location, are won together and players soon realize issues, demographics and voting preferences are not involved with this game. The events and media cards, (Chance and Community Chest in Monopoly) are so heavily tilted against Nixon the game might have been better titled 'How can Nixon win?' as I have been involved in more than ten plays of this game and Nixon has never come close to winning. Regardless of the number of people playing the game, no player can ever play as Nixon. Party structure is thrown out the window and this should not be seen as an actual political game or even as an election game. The box top has it right when they say 'Presidential Sweepstakes' and not an election. - BoardGameGeek
